Here are the good and bad things about the game based on my opinions:The Good:1. The players on the other team can easily block your shots to the point where it is frustrating, yet it is almost impossible to block the shots from other players yourself. At the beginning of the game it tells you to select your favorite team (I chose the Cavaliers), and then those are the players that you will use to practice with. I hate how in the practice area it will only let me control one player. No matter how many times and different ways I have tried, the only time I can make a three point shot is about 1/20. A lot of the movements the players make in the game are very realistic to how real players move on the court, and aren't all messed up like the movements on older basketball games.3.
I really enjoyed how the game had the actual players of each team, and I was able to recognize some of my favorite players. The Bad:Now I have only been playing this game for a short while, but I have had a few annoying problems with the game.1. One thing that has been extremely annoying in this game is how it is pretty much impossible to hit a three point shot. As a big Cleveland Cavaliers fan, I saw this game at a rental store and thought that I would give it a try. It will only let me control one while two other players are practicing, and Lebron is just standing there dribbling a ball and doing nothing.I'm sure that I will get better as I go along but this is the way I feel about the game so far. It's at the point where it is pointless to try to steal the ball because I know that I will get called for a foul automatically, yet the other team can steal the ball from me the exact same way and not get called for it.4. Like another reviewer stated already, blocking a shot in this game is just a matter of luck, not timing or position.5. I give it an overall 4 out of 5 stars.
Pretty much the only times I can make a sucessful shot is by holding down the square button to make my player go in for a lay up or a dunk, and usually he misses if he isn't extremely close to the basket.3. The graphics are very nice, and are some of the best I have seen in video games.2. I have no idea why, but for some reason it will only let me control Zydrunas Ilgauskus (Cavaliers player), and no one else. This has also been a problem with making jump shots as well, only not as bad.2. The refs call fouls almost every single time I try to steal the ball away from another player. I have pushed the buttons on the controller to try to switch players but it does not work. I believe that it is worth a rental but is not worth spending the price that is listed here as of right now.
Good game better than the present years some gliches in the gamebut over all a good one
I am playing this game and so far i like it very much. I just rented it to check out the FIBA World Tournament mode and me being from Puerto Rico is difficult to find sports games with our national team. This one have it. NBA 2k9 is better over all video game, but this year I stick to NBA Live for that mode exclusively, Thank EA for putting national teams, I will give another review when I try the online play.
I was disappointed in this game. The graphics are terrific, the Live 365 feature ahead of the times, but I found the game play to be horrendous. Previous editions of NBA Live were much better. I sold this game and have not missed it at all.
There are countless other problems that plague this game. When I inbounded the ball, the game froze. Maybe it sounds like I'm just griping, but if you play this game for any extended period of time you'll find yourself frustrated with it as I have. Missed layups, missed layups, missed layups.11.
Sometimes the game just starts acting weird. Some of the problems:1. A number of times I've been called for goaltending when blocking a dunk attempt. In the low post offense drill, sometimes your player will catch the ball after making a shot and even though the clock is still running, you can't score anymore points.7.
What makes this confusing is that you can only pick 8 plays and you have 5 players. Strange things like this happen at random times.2. 3. A very high percentage of missed jumpers hit the top of the backboard and get called out of bounds. I don't know if EA just thought they could put out a faulty game because they could fix the problems online later or what, but with all the amazing games that are coming out now it's inexcusable that a simple basketball game would be this glitchy.
In the pick-and-roll offense drill, level 3, the computer always gives me credit for 2,000 fewer points than I actually scored.8. I have not yet found anyone who knows how to complete the team practice as the game gives you no instructions other than to find 2 plays to run for each player. Do the math.9. For those of us who don't subscribe to Live 365, we are stuck with the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Citys because they put this out before the Thunder even chose a name, which is a little too early if you ask me.10. Even really good shooters frequently shoot wide airballs.5. I took over in the middle of a simulated game, only to find that there were 2 Russell Westbrooks on my roster, one at SG and one at PG. The cutscene graphics look like they belong on the original PS.12.
Sure this sounds like nothing, but when it happens several times in a close game it starts to be a problem.4. No matter how much you shoot 3's in the NBA Academy, your players will never improve their outside shooting ability.6. When you knock the ball loose from a defender, the camera stays on the player and you can't see where the ball went to chase it down. This was a weak attempt from a company that has shown an ability to put out good games in other sports.
